About the Organisation

We are an independent, non-government, community-managed agency offering a range of quality services that are responsive to the varying needs of communities extending from the cities of Albury/Wodonga, Wangaratta and Benalla to townships throughout the Towong, Mansfield, Alpine, Indigo shires, as well as 10 additional LGA's through the Southern Riverina of NSW.

Thanks to funding received thorugh the National Legal Assistance Partnership, we now have a rewarding opportunity available for a Community and Legal Engagement Worker to join the organisation and begin providing outreach and support services to women in the Southern Riverina region of NSW.

How You’ll Make a Difference

This is a crucial role within our organisation that will see you breaking down barriers in accessing legal services. You will do this by providing intake, triage and assessments for women who are experiencing (or at risk of experiencing) domestic and family violence.

Although you’ll primarily be based in the Wodonga office, you will also be travelling to communities throughout the Southern Riverina region of NSW, providing vital support to locals (an Agency vehicle will be provided for this). 

Day to day duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing community legal education 
  • Undertaking community development and law reform/advocacy
  • Collaborating with other service providers such as the Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service
  • Building relationships with local agencies in the targeted communities (Deniliquin, Finley and Corowa)
  • Convene the Coopoerative Legal Service Delivery (CLSD) program assisting both legal and non-legal services to come together and identify common priorities for the region

What You’ll Bring to the Team

To be considered for this role, you must hold tertiary qualifications in law, social work, education, community development or another related discipline. Previous experience in a similar role or a demonstrated understanding of the community legal setting will be highly advantageous. 

Critical to your success in this position will be high-level communication skills, which you will use to break down legal jargon and disseminate information. Your warm and approachable demeanour will allow you to engage with marginalised communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and those impacted by trauma. 

Other requirements include:

  • A satisfactory Victorian and NSW Working with Children Check
  • A satisfactory Police Check
  • Evidence of full COVID-19 Vaccination
  • Current driver’s license
